Where Do I Begin?

Calling all artists: Bring your response to this prompt to the Asheville Mall on Sunday September 13 between 12 (noon) and 3 pm.

“Where do I begin” can be a choose your-own-adventure. It is, of course, and invitation to tell a good story (real or imaginary), or to show something about your art making process and how you start a work of art. But there are other possibilities too. For instance, if you think of it as “Where do I begin?” then it could be about a place. Maybe it is about where you grew up or somewhere that is particularly meaningful to you. If you change it to “Where do I begin?” then it could be about identity. Is there a moment or an event that made you realize something significant about yourself or that altered the course of your life? If it is “Where do I begin?” then it could be about boundaries. Are there people (or other beings) in your life that you are so close to that it is hard to figure out where you end and someone else begins? It could even be about metaphysical boundaries. Maybe the idea of the individual is just an illusion and we are all so entangled with each other and everything around us that there are no boundaries.

This is just a start. There are likely many other interpretations of this prompt as well, so choose your own adventure and enjoy!
